No matter what you want call
it, an October 2003 Nielson/Net Ratings Report found that
that the online friend and dating community was one of the most
popular social networks on the Web. It should be of no surprise,
in a world of people who have discovered that their friendship
or potential dating community is no longer only that which can be
detected with the traditional five senses.
In fact, increasingly,
we have come to rely on touch only; that is, the touch of the keys
of a keyboard upon our fingers. The beautiful thing about
this, is that with the stroke of a key, or the click of a mouse,
we are able to conjure up every last emotion we would if the person
was sitting next to us.
Thankfully, we
are able to take this knowledge further and further and create the
most beautiful things in life, friendship, love, companionship,
and perhaps in the end, Marriage.
The American
Association of Retired People, which has articles on senior dating,
could not have said it better, "Like a pen pals of old, the
Internet makes it easy for people from around the world to meet
and become friends."
