Senior Dating - Going on your "First" date

If you have crossed 55 and wish to start dating after a few years or a decade, understandably your nerves will be jittery at the sheer thought of meeting someone for a date for the first time. You are uncertain about your attire, the venue, the topic of conversation and million other big and small details trouble you out of sleep. The fear of the unknown seem to haunt you all the time – coupled with the fear of rejection. While there are no golden rules to be followed in the dating game, here are some useful tips which may soothe your frayed nerves and calm your mind :

  1. Put on your dancing shoes. There are many ballrooms and other dance facilitators where you could enroll for group lessons. It does not matter whether you have two left feet, but these dancing sessions offer opportunities to get close, have fun conversations and work out the feasibility of any chemistry working or not. In the process you could learn a few new steps (which ay help you in your next date venture!)
  2. Auction Action. Charity auctions are also great places to take your date to. You can mingle freely and in the long run donate something for a good cause.
  3. Activities make it healthy. It could be that both of you share the same interests like golf, tennis, swimming, etc. Or simply love to go for long walks Activities such as these are good for first dates as it is something which both of you enjoy.
  4. Artful dating. A walk through a museum or an art gallery is a good idea on the first date. You get to know his/her sense of aesthetics as well as make some meaningful conversation in the process.
  5. Row, Row, Row a Boat. Gently down the stream. Or set sail around the local lake. Water soothes and water bodies calm the mind. Very easy to make gentle conversation.
  6. Shopping with a difference. A browse tour through the local flea market enables you to talk on various topics, see interesting objects and keeps the conversation channels well lubricated.
  7. Fair enough. Taking your first date on a tour of the local fair is not a bad idea at all. From playing games together and doing various other fun activities keep the new-found friendship alive and interesting. Stroll through the grounds and try to laugh together.
